Region, Romanian and Bulgarian electricity markets to be coupled in the autumn

The Romanian spot electricity market, initially coupled with those in Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia and later with those in Austria, Germany and Poland, will also be coupled with the Bulgarian market in the autumn.

According to CEO of the Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX) Konstantin Konstantinov, on 20 September, the tests for the coupling of the Bulgarian spot market with the Romanian one will commence. Coupled energy transactions will take place starting in October.

The information was also confirmed by Romanian electricity transmission system operator Transelectrica.

This spring, the Bulgarian spot electricity market has already been coupled with the Greek market.
