Region: North Macedonia awards contract for gas interconnector with Greece

North Macedonia’s state-owned gas transmission operator, Nomagas, has signed a contract with local construction firm Rapid Build to construct the country’s portion of a new natural gas interconnector with Greece. The project involves building a 68-kilometer pipeline, valued at €83.7 million.

Energy Minister Sanja Bozinovska announced the deal, highlighting its strategic significance for regional energy diversification and security. The tender attracted competitive bids from five companies, including two from Italy, one from Turkey, and one from Serbia, with Rapid Build ultimately securing the contract.

Construction is expected to be completed within 34 months from the signing date. The project is co-financed by loans from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), supplemented by a grant from the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF). The interconnector will play a key role in strengthening North Macedonia’s energy infrastructure and enhancing connectivity with the EU energy market.
