Naftogaz Group has signed its first supply agreement with SOCAR Energy Ukraine, a subsidiary of Azerbaijan’s SOCAR group, to import natural gas from Azerbaijan using the Bulgaria-Romania-Ukraine corridor.
Before starting regular deliveries, the company conducted a trial shipment of gas via the Trans-Balkan route.
Naftogaz CEO Sergii Koretskyi stated that although the volume was small, this marks an important strategic step toward building long-term cooperation, expanding supply options, and strengthening Ukraine’s energy security.
The Trans-Balkan corridor transports gas from the Caspian region through Turkey and Bulgaria into Romania, allowing further delivery to Ukraine and neighboring Moldova. Both countries have faced energy shortages since ending their reliance on Russian supplier Gazprom.
