Region: Moldova signs long-term gas supply deal with Romania’s OMV Petrom

Moldova’s state-owned energy company Energocom has signed a landmark three-year agreement with Romanian oil and gas company OMV Petrom for the purchase of natural gas. The gas will be sourced from the Neptun Deep offshore project in the Black Sea, with deliveries conducted via the virtual trading point (VTP) in Romania, ensuring a stable and secure supply for Moldova.

Romanian Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja praised the agreement as a testament to the growing maturity of Romania’s energy market and the strategic potential of the Neptun Deep project. He underlined the deal’s broader regional and European significance, citing it as an example of strategic cooperation and regional energy integration.

This marks Energocom’s first long-term supply contract with OMV Petrom and reflects a key step in Moldova’s efforts to diversify its energy sources. Neptun Deep, a joint venture between OMV Petrom and Romania’s state-owned gas producer Romgaz, is projected to begin production in 2027. The first gas well was drilled in March, and the site holds an estimated 100 billion cubic meters of reserves—positioning Romania to become the EU’s largest natural gas producer in the coming years.
