Production of electricity in the Czech Republic in 2020 was the lowest in the last 18 years. The amount of produced electricity by Czech power plants was 6.4 % lower than in 2019 and the lowest since 2002. On the other hand, overall electricity consumption dropped by 3.5 % to 71.4 TWh, which represents a five-year low. The main reason behind the low energy production and consumption is the coronavirus outbreak. However, household electricity consumption has been fueled by the pandemic, increasing by nearly 5 % year-on-year.
