Region: EU allocates €2.79 million to improve electricity networks in Bulgaria and Romania

The European Commission (EC) has allocated €2.79 million for a study focused on enhancing electricity networks in Bulgaria and Romania. This effort is part of a larger initiative to develop a smart electricity grid across the European Union.

The project aims to modernize electricity networks in both countries by incorporating digital technologies, while also strengthening connections with neighboring countries, including Hungary, Ukraine, and Moldova. With an overall budget of €502 million, the initiative’s goals include improving energy efficiency, integrating renewable energy sources, enhancing electricity supply security, and connecting energy markets.

In addition, the EC will provide nearly €1.25 billion to support 41 cross-border energy infrastructure projects across the EU, identified as being of mutual or common interest. EU member states can continue submitting proposals for these projects until the end of the year.
