Region, Electricity imports fall to 1.36 TWh in the last week of 2022

The net import of electricity to the countries of Southeast Europe, in the period from December 25 to January 1, decreased by 21.5% compared to the previous week, to 1.36 TWh, as a result of the drop in consumption.

The net import of electricity in Hungary decreased by 26%, to 201 GWh, due to higher wind production in the last week of last year. In the observed period, Serbia imported 4.5 TWh.

On the other hand, as wholesale electricity prices in Central Europe fell below those in the SEE region, Western markets were more competitive. As a result, Greece and Croatia increased the volume of electricity imports by 43% (to 306.8 GWh) and 14% (to 77.2 GWh), respectively.

Romania continued to export electricity this week, recording a net export of 80 GWh. Bulgaria remained the main exporter of electricity in the region with a slight drop in exports compared to the previous week, by 0.7 GWh, to close to 141 GWh.
