North Macedonia: Reduced production at TPP Bitola due to a heavy rain and snow

A heavy rain and snow in the Bitola region had a negative impact on the operation of the coalmine, and thus on the entire TPP Bitola complex, said North Macedonian state-owned power utility ESM.

The rains of over 100 liters per square meter and the flood water caused a delay in the preparations for moving the tracks that transport coal from the Suvodol mine to the thermal power plant, due to which the operation of unit 2 has been suspended since the morning of 15 January. Unit 3 is still in operation.

The statement from ESM said that it currently meets the needs of the electricity system by using unit 3 of TPP Bitola, TPP Oslomej, hydropower plants and Bogdanci wind farm. The company delivers electricity to the universal supplier EVN Home in accordance with the needs and commitments, due to which the citizens have no reason to fear for the regular electricity supply. Emergency electricity imports are not planned.
