North Macedonia: Gross electricity production reached 420 TWh in September

Gross electricity production in North Macedonia decreased by 13.6% in September 2023 compared to the same month in 2022, to 419,891 MWh, according to the data published by the statistical office, Makstat. In the same period, net electricity output fell by 8.7%, to 396,006 MWh.

Thermal power plants contributed the largest portion of gross electricity production in September, generating 194,963 MWh, down 17.6% compared to the same month in 2022. Hydropower plants generated 75,938 MWh, down 14.7% year-on-year.

Wind park’s output deceraaed by 1.5% to 7,676 MWh, while solar parks produced 6,467 MWh, up 65.3% on the year.

Electricity generated by cogeneration plants and auto-production thermal power stations totalled 131,525 MWh, down from 147,042 MWh in September 2022. Biogas plants generated 3,323 MWh of electricity in September 2023, up 107.8% on the year.

Electricity imports increased to 143,285 MWh in September 2023 from 69,297 MWh in September 2022. Electricity exports totaled 132,979 MWh in September, compared to 119,522 MWh exported in the same month of last year.

Distribution losses increased 7.3% on the year to 41,468 MWh in September.
