Montenegro: Over 200 MW of solar projects planned around Niksic

A wave of large solar projects is emerging around Niksic in western Montenegro, with several developers preparing to add significant capacity to the country’s renewable energy pipeline.

Privately held S2P Tupan has submitted plans for a solar power plant of up to 90 MW and asked the Environmental Protection Agency to determine whether a full environmental impact assessment will be required. The project would use 109,248 Trina solar panels. S2P Tupan, owned by Swiss-based S2P Electric, specializes in engineering and technical consultancy.

At the same time, local entrepreneur Milan Banjevic is advancing plans for the Bogetici solar power plant, rated at 61 MWp. The facility would cover 558,336 square meters in the village of Bogetici. Under optimal conditions, the project is designed for 61.39 MW, with an expected effective output of 52.79 MW. The government has already cleared the draft urban-technical documentation for this investment.

Additional capacity is also in the pipeline. In April, the Environmental Protection Agency announced that TM Invest requested guidance on whether its planned 67 MW solar project near Bogetici requires an environmental impact study.

If all three projects proceed, the Niksic area could see more than 200 MW of new solar capacity, significantly boosting Montenegro’s renewable energy development.
