Montenegro: Major renewable energy projects advance in Korita

Two significant renewable energy projects are progressing in the village of Korita, located in Bijelo Polje municipality, Montenegro: a €200 million solar power plant and a wind farm with an installed capacity of 72.6 MW.

The wind farm, developed by Vjetro park Korita, has formally submitted its environmental impact assessment application to Montenegro’s Environmental Protection Agency. Earlier this year, the government issued urban-technical permits following a joint request from Vjetro park Korita, Sistem-MNE, and PerMonte, enabling both the wind and adjacent solar projects to move forward.

The wind farm will feature eleven turbines, each rated at 6.6 MW. Although the project covers about 162 hectares, the turbines themselves will occupy only 3.3 hectares once installed. A 30-year lease agreement with the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Urbanism and State Property grants the developers rights to operate the turbines on the site.

Electricity generated at the plateau will be transmitted via a new 27.8-kilometer, 400 kV overhead line connecting the Korita substation to the existing Ribarevine switching station. The Korita solar project, which has already passed its environmental review, includes a dedicated transformer station that will also serve the wind farm, streamlining grid connection for both facilities.
