Montenegro: EPCG and France’s Akuo Energy partner on floating solar and storage projects

Montenegro’s state-owned power utility EPCG has signed a cooperation agreement with French renewable energy company Akuo Energy to jointly develop a floating solar power project. The Memorandum of Understanding establishes the framework for building a solar park on Slano Lake in western Montenegro and paves the way for broader collaboration in renewable energy development.

Beyond the floating solar initiative, the agreement also includes potential cooperation on additional projects, such as the planned Krupac solar power plant and the design and installation of battery energy storage systems.

Both Slano and Krupac lakes are located in the Niksic valley, an area emerging as a key center for infrastructure and energy investments. In parallel with renewable developments, EPCG plans to build the Krupac–Slano hydrotechnical tunnel, a €12 million project that will link the two lakes and improve water management throughout the region.

Through this partnership, EPCG and Akuo Energy aim to integrate solar generation, energy storage, and water infrastructure, supporting Montenegro’s transition toward sustainable energy and efficient resource management.
