Macedonia: EBRD and EIB interested in wind park investments

Macedonian Minister of Finance Dragan Tevdovski said that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) are interested to take part in the funding of the construction of wind farm in Miravci and solar power plant in Oslomej.

Minister Tevdovski said after the annual EBRD meeting in Jordan that the Macedonia Government held discussions with many international creditors regarding the projects related to renewable energy sources (RES) because increasing their share in Macedonia’s electricity production is one of the Government’s priorities. EBRD and EIB were particularly interested in Miravci wind farm project and Oslomej solar power plant project, Minister said, adding that state-owned power utility ELEM is already preparing documentation for these two projects.

Late last year, Deputy Prime Minister Koco Angjusev said that the Government will support RES electricity production with new solar power projects which will be subsidized by the state budget, adding that one of the projects that will be offered envisages the construction of several photovoltaic power plants with the installed capacity of 30 to 40 MW.

The only wind farm in Macedonia – 36.8 MW Bogdanci, operated by state-owned power utility ELEM, was commissioned in 2015. Wind park currently consists of 16 wind turbines, while the second stage of the project envisages the addition of another six turbines. Once completed, Bogdanci wind farm will have installed capacity of 50 MW, which could produce up to 100 GWh of electricity per year, enough to cover the demand of some 60,000 households.
