Hungary: KazMunayGas delivers first crude shipment, strengthens ties with MOL Group

Kazakhstan’s state-owned oil company KazMunayGas (KMG) has successfully delivered its first shipment of crude oil to Hungary, marking a significant milestone in its strategic energy cooperation with Hungary’s MOL Group.

The initial cargo of 85,000 tons was transported by sea from the Russian port of Novorossiysk to Croatia’s Omisalj port aboard the vessel Alatau, operated by Kazmortransflot, KMG’s maritime subsidiary. From there, the crude is being transferred via the JANAF-operated oil pipeline to the Szazhalombatta refinery in Hungary.

The arrival of the shipment was followed by a meeting between representatives from KMG, MOL Group, and Croatian pipeline operator JANAF. Discussions focused on expanding their partnership, resulting in a framework agreement between KMG and MOL for future crude deliveries, indicating a shared intent to establish a stable long-term supply relationship.

This delivery marks a strategic step for Kazakhstan, extending KMG’s export footprint further into European Union markets and enhancing energy ties with Central Europe.
