Hungary: Fuel consumption trends: Petrol up 0.8%, diesel down 1.2%

In the first nine months of 2024, retail fuel consumption in Hungary showed mixed trends, according to the Hungarian Petroleum Association (MASZ). Petrol consumption increased by 0.8%, while diesel saw a decrease of 1.2%, leading to an overall fuel consumption decline of 0.4%. Total fuel consumption reached 2.92 billion liters, comprising 1.16 billion liters of petrol and 1.75 billion liters of diesel.

Notably, premium petrol consumption rose significantly, with 207.4 million liters sold—a 14% increase from the previous year. In contrast, 95 petrol consumption fell by 1.6%, totaling 954.7 million liters. Premium diesel also saw growth, with consumption rising by 17.6% to 147.1 million liters, while non-premium diesel sales decreased by 2.6%, amounting to 1.61 billion liters.

MASZ member companies operate approximately 1,050 petrol stations across Hungary, responsible for around 75% of total retail petrol sales and 66% of diesel sales.
