Hungary exceeds gas storage targets, ensuring energy security for winter

Hungary’s gas storage facilities are currently holding 6 billion cubic meters of gas, exceeding the country’s target level of 90% capacity, according to the Hungarian Ministry of Energy. This volume is double the amount of gas used by Hungarian households in the previous year.

As part of European Union requirements, Hungary was mandated to fill its gas reserves to 90% capacity by November 1, a goal the country achieved ahead of schedule in early autumn. In addition to this, Hungary has successfully reduced its gas consumption by 20% for two consecutive years, compared to the average consumption levels of the previous five years.

With this achievement, Hungary is well-positioned to meet its energy needs, with annual gas consumption in 2024 expected to stay below 8 billion cubic meters, ensuring greater energy security heading into the winter months.
