Hungary, Demand for solar panels has significantly increased in the past month

According to the President of Hungarian Solar Association Erno Kiss, demand for solar panels has significantly increased in the past month.

Kiss said that, at the end of 2021, some 35,000 Hungarian households had solar panels installed by the members of the Association, but in the past month more than 60,000 applications for solar panels installation have been received.

In addition to households, businesses are also asking for thousands of solar panel systems, as they have been receiving electricity at market prices for years, and due to the energy crisis, market prices have increased drastically. All this is causing a heavy backlog, which is why Kiss believes that some of the recently received requests will be carried over to next year.

The total domestic solar capacity in Hungary is expected to be above 3,262 MW by the end of the year, with the 2030 goal of 6,000 MW appearing realistic to achieve.

According to data published by the Hungarian Energy and Public Utilities Regulatory Office (MEKH), the number of Hungarian households with solar panels participating in a feed-in tariff scheme reached 120,313 at the end of March 2022. The number increased by 5.8 % compared to the end of 2021. Including the 20,822 businesses with solar panels participating in the feed-in tariff scheme, the total built-in capacity of solar panels reached 1,195 MW at the end of the first quarter of 2022. Household solar panels accounted for 68 % of that capacity.
