Hungary and Slovakia expand gas interconnection capacity to strengthen regional energy links

Hungary’s natural gas transmission operator FGSZ and Slovakia’s Eustream have updated their Interconnection Agreement to expand gas transmission capacity from Hungary to Slovakia. Under the amendment, the annual flow limit will increase from 3.5 billion to 4.38 billion cubic meters, subject to approval by national regulators.

The boost in capacity has been made possible through system optimization on Hungary’s gas network, allowing uninterrupted additional flows at the border point between the two countries. This step is seen as an important milestone in advancing the Vertical Corridor project.

Once the necessary infrastructure upgrades are completed, the expanded interconnection will strengthen bidirectional gas transport along the north-south axis of Central Europe. The development will improve the efficiency of regional natural gas use and enhance integration with both existing and future LNG capacities in the region.
