Greece: Vestas and Terna Energy’s deal to supply Karystia wind project

The Karystia wind farm is located in Evia prefecture in an area which has one of the highest wind speeds in Greece. Danish wind turbines manufacturer Vestas and renewables company Terna Energy have signed a deal on the supply of wind turbines for Karystia wind project in Greece.

Vestas will supply and install 40 units of V105-3.45 MW turbines, delivered in 3.6 MW power optimized mode, and also service the wind farm under a ten-year Active Output Management 5000 agreement. Vestas expects to deliver the turbines in the second and third quarter of 2021, while the wind farm should be commissioned in the third quarter of 2022.

Terna Energy is expected to go ahead with the construction of wind farms with a total capacity of over 180 MW, to take the total capacity of the new wind farms it is planning in the Greek RES market to more than 400 MW and its total investment value to 550 million euros. Terna Energy’s strategic goal is to develop RES projects totaling 2,000 MW in Greece and abroad. With the addition of the newly acquired wind portfolio of RF Energy Omalies, this target is expected to be attained far earlier than the original plan for 2025.
