Greece, Rate of consumer supplier switches dropped in August, September

After several months on constant increases, the number of consumers switching their electricity supplier dropped by 6.5 % in September, compared to the same month last year, mostly due discouragement by monthly price fluctuations.

Consumer switches was also decreasing in the first twenty days of August, dropping by 20 % year-on-year, with even higher number of consumers changing their electricity supplier in the last ten days of the months, which pushed the total decrease in August to almost 30 %.

In the month of September, the number of consumer switches dropped by some 6,500, to 93,500 from 100,000 in September 2021.

The number of consumer switches increased steadily through the first half of 2022, ahead of the energy crisis measures which were about to be implemented as of 1 July. A rise in the number of residential consumers resorting to the universal electricity supply service, which is supplying “black-listed” consumers who have been rejected by previous suppliers over payment failures, was observed in the first six months of the year. In May 2022 alone, some 170,000 low-voltage consumers have changed their electricity supplier.
