Greece: Modules for SPP Kozani to be supplied by JinkoSolar

The construction of Kozani solar power plant in northern Greece is scheduled to start in November 2021.

JinkoSolar, one of the largest and most innovative solar module manufacturers in the world, said that it has signed a module supply agreement for a solar project in Kozani, to be developed by local subsidiary of German company juwi. Plant construction will use 204 MW of Swan bifacial modules with transparent backsheet from DuPont.

General Manager of JinkoSolar Europe Frank Niendorf said that the company is delighted that juwi Hellas, one of the most professional and experienced EPC companies, globally, has once again placed its trust in the superior quality and reliable performance of JinkoSolar’s solar modules for the new project in Greece. The Kozani project will become Europe’s benchmark for renewable energy in terms of competitively priced and subsidy-free solar power. It is also one of the largest utility scale projects ever built in Europe to use bifacial modules.

In February, ELPE Renewables, a subsidiary of oil refiner Hellenic Petroleum, agreed to purchase unfinished solar project from German company juwi. The plant in question is located near Kozani in northern Greece and, with installed capacity of 204 MW, it will be the largest solar power plant in the country. juwi already agreed with Greek Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) that the purchase price of electricity produced at the facility will be 5.73 eurocents/kWh.

Earlier this month, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said that it will invest 75 million euros in a bond placement by Greek oil refiner Hellenic Petroleum (ELPE) aimed at funding the company’s RES projects, namely 204 MW Kozani solar project in western Macedonia.
