Greece: Helleniq Energy expands renewable portfolio with 110 MW solar acquisition in Western Macedonia

Greek oil company Helleniq Energy has significantly expanded its renewable energy portfolio by acquiring a 110 MW solar power plant portfolio in Western Macedonia. This acquisition brings the company’s total installed renewable energy capacity to 500 MW.

The newly acquired portfolio, which consists of six solar power plants, was purchased from the solar developer Lightsource bp as part of a larger agreement made last summer. Located in the Kozani municipality, the solar plants were commissioned in May and feature bifacial modules. They operate under long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with a major international company, whose identity remains undisclosed. The combined plants generate around 175 GWh of electricity annually, sufficient to power more than 41,000 households.

In addition to this acquisition, Helleniq Energy owns a 204.3 MW solar park in Kozani, which has been operational since 2022 and is managed by its green energy subsidiary, Helleniq Renewables.

The company noted that this acquisition is in line with its strategic objective to achieve at least 1 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2025 and exceed 2 GW by 2030.
