Greece: Environment permit granted to 100 MW wind project

The Greek Ministry of Energy has authorised the construction of a 100-MW wind farm across three sites in the Western Macedonia region.

An environment permit for the project was awarded recently to domestic firm Megaleksandros Vendavel SA, a unit of Greece-based Vendavel Energy SA.

Under the plan, two municipalities in the Florina and Kastoria regional units will accommodate wind turbine generators with a combined capacity of 100.8 MW. The selected sites are partially located within protected areas of the European ecological network NATURA 2000. Specifically, the complex will have three sections of 33.6 MW each, two of which will be located in Florina and one in both Florina and Kastoria. Each of these plants will be equipped with eight of Vestas Wind System’s V150- 4.2 MW machines.

The project also includes the construction of a new substation.

Vendavel Energy has 73.6 MW of installed wind turbine capacity and more than 500 MW of wind and solar projects in various stages of development.
