Greece, ELPE has commissioned the 204.3 MW Kozani solar power plant

Greek oil refiner Hellenic Petroleum (ELPE) announced that it has commissioned the 204.3 MW Kozani solar power plant in Western Macedonia region.

The statement from the company said that the newly commissioned power plants is the largest solar farm in operation in the country and the biggest European complex using bi-facial solar modules.

With a total cost of some 130 million euros, the plant is expected to generate 350 GWh of electricity per year, enough to cover the consumption of 75,000 households.

German renewables developer Juwi, through its subsidiary Juwi Hellas, was in charge of installing more than 500,000 bifacial modules for the project.

Hellenic Petroleum purchased the Kozani project from German renewables developer Juwi in 2020. The German company acquired a license at the RES auction held in April 2019. Its subsidiary Juwi Hellas was in charge of the installation of more than 500,000 bifacial solar modules for the project.

ELPE aims to have 1 GW of renewable energy capacity in operation by the end of 2026 and more than 2 GW by 2030.

Last month, the company acquired two solar power plant projects with combined power output of 303 MW, which are currently in the licensing stage. The two solar projects located near Meliti in Northern Greece, were acquired from renewable developer FEN SOL. The company also acquired smaller, already operational 16 MW solar power plant in the Viotia area from Trina Solar.
