The European Investment Bank (EIB) has approved a green financing package of €25.9 million to support the construction of a new wind farm in central Greece by Spanish energy company Iberdrola.
The Gatza wind farm will be situated across the municipalities of Orchomenou and Lokron in the Viotia and Fthiotida regions. Upon completion, the project will add 22.5 MW of wind generation capacity to the country’s grid.
The funding is structured in two parts: a €10 million loan directly from the EIB and €15.9 million from the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility. This marks the first collaboration between the EIB and Rokas, Iberdrola’s Greek affiliate.
Once operational, the Gatza wind farm will increase Iberdrola’s total installed wind capacity in Greece to 443.5 MW, further strengthening the company’s position as one of the country’s leading renewable energy operators.
