Greece, DEPA prepares tenders for 550 MW of solar projects

The commercial arm of the Greek natural gas supplier, Public Gas Corporation of Greece AE, better known as DEPA, will hold competitive rounds to find contractors to install 550 MW of solar capacity across Greece.

The proposed tenders will be issued within three months as part of the company’s plan to enter the renewable energy sector. The total budget for distribution is estimated at around 400 million euros.

According to the report, about 450 MW of the total capacity will be located in the regions of Western Macedonia and Kozani, and 400 MW will come from one large solar park. The remaining 100 MW of photovoltaic PV plants are to be installed in the Viotia regional unit in southern Greece.

The unnamed sources said DEPA Commercial intends to provide incentives if contracted projects are delivered earlier than planned. According to the plan, the projects should be completed by the end of 2024, and the production of electricity is expected to start at the beginning of next year.

The gas company is said to have already secured grid connection contracts for the projects and intends to sell future production through a power purchase agreement, PPA.
