Greece connects over 20,000 new solar installations in 18 months, expands self-generation capacity

Over the past 18 months, Greece’s electricity distribution system operator DEDDIE has integrated more than 20,000 new solar installations into the national grid. This has brought the total number of self-generation renewable energy systems in the country to 35,312, with a combined installed capacity approaching 995 MW.

Out of the total, 20,347 systems were connected within the last year and a half. The vast majority are small-scale solar units with a capacity of less than 100 kW. Specifically, 34,108 such installations contribute a combined 360 MW to the grid.

Additionally, Greece’s Special Rooftop Program has led to the deployment of 40,685 solar panels, adding another 371 MW to the country’s solar energy capacity.

DEDDIE also reported that 705 more applications for self-generation solar systems are nearing final approval. A recent policy change now allows users to switch between net-metering and net-billing models without incurring any additional fees.
