Greece, Coast of Crete added to the list of the first-round offshore wind zones

State Secretary at the Greek Ministry of Energy Alexandra Sdoukou said that the coast of Crete has been added to areas that will be offered for the development of offshore wind projects in the first round of auctions offering up to 2 GW of capacity, thus joining the Alexandroupoli offshore area in northeastern Greece.

She added that one or two more zones, which are already identified, will be added to the lsit before the launch of the first capacity auctions.

She said that the 2030 target will be to reach 6.3 billion euros of private investments in offshore wind. Of this amount, 4.3 billion euros will flow directly into the domestic economy, creating up to 8,220 new jobs by the end of the decade.

According to offshore wind draft frameworks, Greece is aiming to have the first operational offshore wind farm by 2030. In order to achieve that, the Ministry of Energy is planning to stage the first offshore wind auction, with up to 2 GW in capacity, by the end of 2025.
