Greece: Blue Elephant Energy’s acquisition of solar capacity in Greece from ABO Wind

German renewable developer Blue Elephant, which mainly focuses on countries in Western Europe, has 1.104 MW of green portfolio in operation and under construction. Blue Elephant Energy has agreed to purchase 45 MW in solar power plants in Greece from also German ABO Wind for an undisclosed sum. The deal represents Blue Elephant’s entry into the Greek renewable energy market. The acquired portfolio consists of two operational solar power plants with capacities of 7 and 38 MW, respectively.

The larger plant, located near Trikala, is equipped with a private substation and single-axis trackers and it is the largest solar park currently in operation in Greece. The smaller plant is located near Xanthi. Combined electricity output of the two plants stands at around 80 million kWh per year. ABO Wind became the owner of the two projects in 2018 with the acquisition during the development phase. The planning, construction and connection to the network of both plants took place between 2019 and 2020.
