European energy markets: Solar and wind production trends in January 2025

In the week of January 20, 2025, solar energy production in the Italian electricity market rose by 6.2%, continuing the upward trend for the second consecutive week. However, other major European markets saw a decline in solar production after previous increases. Germany experienced the smallest drop at 4.1%, while Portugal saw a significant decline of 63%. France and Spain experienced reductions of 36% and 54%, respectively.

Looking ahead to the week of January 27, forecasts from AleaSoft Energy Forecasting predict an increase in solar energy production in Spain, Germany, and Italy. Meanwhile, wind energy production increased in most major European markets during the fourth week of 2025, reversing the declines seen in the previous week. France experienced the largest increase at 235%, while Portugal saw the smallest at 48%. Spain and Germany saw increases of 77% and 100%, respectively. However, the Italian market saw a 43% decrease in wind energy production for the second consecutive week.

For the final week of January 2025, AleaSoft’s wind energy production forecasts suggest that Spain and Italy will see increases, while Portugal, France, and Germany will experience declines, AleaSoft reports.
