European Commission launches second mid-term gas procurement round under AggregateEU platform

The European Commission (EC) is launching the second mid-term round of gas procurement under the AggregateEU platform.

EU and Energy Community buyers can consolidate their gas demand across multiple six-month periods from July 2025 to October 2030, enabling them to access competitive offers from trusted international suppliers.

To participate in the tender process, demand submissions must be made by March 17. Following this, from March 18 to March 21, potential suppliers will be invited to express interest. Once the platform matches supply with demand, individual companies will enter into bilateral negotiations to finalize contracts.

The first mid-term phase took place in February 2024, following a series of short-term rounds that began in April 2023 and successfully matched 42 billion cubic meters of demand with supply.

Launched in April 2023 as part of the EU Energy Platform, AggregateEU is the Commission’s key initiative for collective demand aggregation and coordinated gas procurement at the European level.

Under the Hydrogen and Decarbonized Gases package, the Commission is now working on a long-term framework for joint gas purchasing, along with similar models for aggregating demand for essential resources such as hydrogen and critical raw materials.
