Europe: Solar energy production hits records, wind energy sees declines in early February

During the week of February 3, solar photovoltaic energy production saw an increase in key European markets compared to the previous week. The Iberian Peninsula, France, and Germany all experienced growth for the second consecutive week, while Italy continued its upward trend for the fourth week in a row. The Spanish market saw the largest increase, up by 40%, while Germany recorded the smallest increase at 17%. Portugal, Italy, and France saw increases of 25%, 30%, and 31%, respectively.

Notably, France and the Iberian Peninsula set historical records for solar photovoltaic energy production during the week. In France, the record was set on February 3, with 68 GWh produced, while Portugal set its record for a February day with 17 GWh on February 5. Spain also set a new high for February, reaching 129 GWh on February 6.

Looking ahead to the week of February 10, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting predicts that solar energy production will rise in Germany but decrease in Spain and Italy. In the first week of February, wind energy production declined across major European markets compared to the previous week. Germany saw the smallest decline at 20%, marking a second consecutive week of reduced production. The Iberian markets experienced the largest drops, with Spain down by 59% and Portugal by 62%. Italy and France recorded declines of 24% and 47%, respectively.

For the second week of February, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting forecasts an increase in wind energy production in Germany, while the Iberian Peninsula, Italy, and France are expected to see decreases, AleaSoft reports.
