Europe: Electricity demand trends in major markets: Late August increases and September forecasts

In the last week of August, electricity demand rose across most major European markets compared to the previous week. Italy saw the largest increase at 15%, while Germany experienced the smallest increase at 1.2%. In other markets, such as Spain, Portugal, Belgium, the UK, and France, demand increases ranged from 2.4% in Spain to 5.9% in France. Notably, Belgium’s demand continued to rise for the fifth consecutive week. Conversely, the Netherlands experienced a decline in demand for the second consecutive week, with a 0.9% drop.

During the same week, average temperatures rose in most of the analyzed countries, with increases ranging from 0.8°C in Italy and the Netherlands to 1.7°C in Germany. However, Portugal and Spain saw slight decreases in average temperatures by 0.3°C and 0.4°C, respectively.

For the week of September 2, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting predicts that electricity demand will increase in the markets of Great Britain, Italy, Portugal, and Germany, while it will decrease in Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, and France, AleaSoft reports.
