Europe: Electricity demand rises in early November as temperatures drop

During the first week of November, electricity demand rose across the main European markets compared to the previous week. Belgium recorded the largest increase at 3.7 percent, while Portugal registered the smallest rise at 1.4 percent. In Italy, France, Spain, Great Britain, and Germany, demand grew between 1.9 percent in Italy and 2.9 percent in Germany. The French market marked its fifth consecutive week of rising demand.

The increase in demand across most markets was supported by lower temperatures and a rebound in activity following the All Saints’ Day holiday on November 1, observed in Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and France.

Average temperatures dropped in most countries compared to the previous week. Italy experienced the largest decrease of 2.8 °C, while France saw the smallest drop of 1.1 °C. Belgium and Great Britain were the exceptions, with temperatures rising by 1.4 °C and 2.1 °C, respectively.

For the week of November 10, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting expects electricity demand to decline in France, Belgium, Portugal, and Germany, while increasing in Great Britain, Italy, and Spain, AleaSoft reports.
