Europe: Electricity demand rises across most markets in mid-June

During the week of June 16, electricity demand increased in most major European electricity markets compared to the previous week. Spain saw the largest rise at 7.8%, marking its fifth consecutive week of growth. France and Belgium followed with increases of 5.2% and 4.8%, respectively. Despite the Corpus Christi holiday on June 19, Portugal’s demand rose by 3.1% after two weeks of decline. Italy also experienced a 3.1% increase, while Great Britain recorded a smaller but steady rise of 2.2%, continuing its upward trend for the third week in a row. Demand in Germany remained largely unchanged from the previous week.

Average temperatures increased across all analyzed markets, with the smallest rise of 0.3 °C in Italy and the largest of 3.0 °C in Great Britain. The Iberian Peninsula also saw notable temperature increases, with Spain and Portugal recording 2.4 °C and 2.3 °C rises, respectively.

Looking ahead to the week of June 23, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting projects that demand will continue to increase in France and Italy, with Germany also expecting a rise. In contrast, electricity demand is forecasted to decline in Spain, Belgium, Great Britain, and Portugal, AleaSoft reports.
