Europe: Electricity demand in early September shows mixed trends

Italy recorded the largest increase, 4.1%, marking four consecutive weeks of growth. Germany, France, and Portugal also saw rises of 0.2%, 0.3%, and 0.8%, respectively, with Germany and Portugal extending a three-week upward trend.

Conversely, demand fell in Spain, the United Kingdom, and Belgium. Spain registered a slight decrease of 0.4%, continuing a two-week decline. The UK saw a drop of 1.1%, while Belgium experienced the largest fall, 1.4%, ending a six-week period of growth.

Average temperatures were lower than the previous week across most markets. The UK recorded the largest decline at 2.4 °C, while Portugal and Spain saw more moderate drops of 0.1 °C and 0.4 °C, respectively. France, Belgium, and Germany registered decreases of 1.3 °C, 1.6 °C, and 1.7 °C, respectively. Italy’s average temperature remained largely unchanged.

For the week of September 15, forecasts from AleaSoft Energy anticipate electricity demand will rise in the UK, Spain, and France, while Italy, Portugal, Germany, and Belgium are expected to experience declines, AleaSoft reports.
