Europe: Electricity demand and temperature trends

During the week of July 29, electricity demand across the main European markets showed varied trends. Demand increased in Germany, France, Spain and Belgium, with Spain leading the way with a 2.6% rise, marking its seventh consecutive week of growth. Germany saw a modest increase of 0.2%, while Belgium and France recorded increases of 2.3% and 1.5%, respectively.

Conversely, electricity demand decreased in Portugal, the UK, Italy, and the Netherlands. Italy experienced the largest drop, with demand falling by 1.6%. The Netherlands had the smallest decrease at 0.8%, while demand in Portugal and the UK fell by 1.5% and 1.1%, respectively. The UK and Dutch markets have been on a downward trend, with the UK seeing its third consecutive weekly decline and the Netherlands its fourth.

In the first week of August, average temperatures rose in most of the analyzed markets compared to the last week of July. France and the UK registered the most significant increases in average temperature, with rises of 2.3°C and 2.1°C, respectively. Belgium saw a 1.8°C increase, while in Spain, Italy, Germany, and the Netherlands, temperature increases ranged from 0.6°C in Italy to 1.3°C in the Netherlands. Portugal was the exception, where average temperatures decreased slightly by 0.2°C, according to AleaSoft.
