EU: The first tender for joint gas purchases announced

European Commission announced the first tender for joint gas purchases on May 10. Joint gas purchases represent a historic milestone and this is the first time that the EU uses its collective economic weight to increase its energy security and tackle high gas prices, EC Vice President Maros Sefcovic said.

He added that 77 European companies submitted requests for a total volume of 11.6 billion cubic meters of gas, consisting of demand for 2.8 billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas and 9.6 billion cubic meters by pipeline supply.

International gas suppliers can apply for the tender until 15 May for gas deliveries between June 2023 and May 2024.
