Electricity demand trends: Most European markets see increases, Portugal and France decline

During the week of October 14, electricity demand rose in most major European markets compared to the previous week. The Dutch market saw the largest increase at 6.6%, while the British, Belgian, Spanish, and Italian markets recorded smaller gains ranging from 0.2% in Great Britain to 0.9% in Italy. Notably, British demand increased for the fifth consecutive week, while the Belgian and Dutch markets experienced increases for the third and fourth weeks, respectively. Italy also continued its upward trend for the second week, AleaSoft reports.

Conversely, demand fell in the Portuguese, French and German markets. Portugal experienced the largest decrease at 3.2%, maintaining its downward trend from the previous week. Germany and France saw drops of 0.6% and 1.6%, respectively, indicating a shift in trend compared to the week before.

Average temperatures rose in most analyzed markets, with increases ranging from 0.2 °C in Italy to 2.2 °C in Great Britain. However, Germany, Spain, and Portugal reported decreases in average temperatures of 0.3 °C, 0.5 °C, and 0.8 °C, respectively.

Looking ahead to the week of October 21, forecasts from AleaSoft Energy indicate that demand will likely increase in Portugal, Italy, France, Germany,and the Netherlands, while it is expected to decline in Great Britain, Belgium, and Spain, AleaSoft reports.
