EBRD considers €90 million loan for solar-thermal plant in Novi Sad

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is considering a loan of up to 90 million euros to support the construction of a large-scale solar-thermal plant in Novi Sad, located in Serbia’s northern province of Vojvodina.

According to the bank’s statement, the project will be executed by the municipal district heating company Novosadska Toplana, in collaboration with the city of Novi Sad and Serbia’s Ministry of Mining and Energy.

The solar plant will feature 38,600 square meters of solar collector fields, seasonal heat storage, a heat pump, and an electric boiler. The total estimated cost of the project is 104.7 million euros, with the loan anticipated to be approved in early December.

Additionally, the project will receive co-financing through an investment grant from the European Union’s Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF). This initiative is part of the EBRD’s Green Cities Window 1 Framework and aims to assist Serbia in decarbonizing its district heating sector, ensuring a more efficient, reliable, and eco-friendly heat supply for households, public institutions, and businesses in Novi Sad.
