Croatian energy exchange CROPEX sees increased trading volumes in August

In August 2024, a total of 1,302,837.3 MWh of electricity was traded on the Croatian energy exchange CROPEX, marking a 1.2% increase from July. This total included 1,188,751 MWh traded on the day-ahead market and 114,086.3 MWh on the intraday market. The volume traded in August was 80.3% higher compared to the same month last year.

The average daily base price on the day-ahead market in August was €113.06/MWh, up 6.6% from the previous month. The average euro-peak price reached €104.01/MWh, representing a 15% increase compared to July. On the intraday market, the average price was €121.4/MWh, up 10.3% from June.

CROPEX’s day-ahead market had 31 participants, the same as the previous month, with 27 of these also active on the intraday market. The average daily traded volume on the day-ahead market in August was 38,346.8 MWh.

CROPEX was launched on March 11, 2016, in partnership with Nord Pool, Europe’s leading electricity exchange. It is co-owned by the Croatian electricity transmission system operator (HOPS) and the Croatian electricity market operator (HROTE). The intraday market began in April 2017. On June 19, 2018, CROPEX’s day-ahead market was successfully coupled with the MRC markets through the Croatian-Slovenian border as part of a joint project by Croatian and Slovenian transmission system operators and power exchanges.
