Croatia: New geothermal power plant by Geo Power Zagocha

This summer in Cadjavica municipality in Virovitica-Podravina county, Croatian company Geo Power Zagocha will start the construction of a 20 MW geothermal power plant, a project worth 71 million euros.

The plant will use Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) system to produce electricity, which will be delivered to the distribution network of state-owned power utility HEP. The plant will be built in Cadjavica municipality. Currently there are three geothermal wells (PS-2, PS-4 and PS-5) in the area where the power plant will be built. The plant will use geothermal water from the existing well PS-5 and a new well, planned some 900 meters to the east of the future geothermal power plant.

Currently, Croatia has one operational geothermal power plant – 16.5 MW Velika 1 near Bjelovar, built and operated by Turkish MB Holding. The company is also preparing for the construction of its second geothermal power plant – 19.9 MW Legrad near Koprivnica.
