Croatia: Koncar secures €24.9M contract to upgrade Senj hydropower plant

Croatian electrical equipment manufacturer Koncar has signed a €24.9 million contract with state-owned HEP-Proizvodnja, the electricity generation subsidiary of power utility HEP, to modernize the secondary systems at the Senj hydropower plant.

This project follows a previous contract awarded in 2021, which focused on replacing primary components, including generating units, generators, turbines and excitation systems.

Under the new agreement, Koncar will install advanced secondary equipment, upgrade auxiliary systems, and carry out civil engineering improvements. These enhancements aim to improve the plant’s efficiency, reliability, and long-term operational stability.

Commissioned in 1965 with an initial capacity of 72 MW, HPP Senj was one of Croatia’s three largest hydropower plants at the time. It has since been expanded to a capacity of 216 MW.
