Croatia: HERA announces new gas prices

The Croatian Energy Regulatory Agency (HERA) has determined new gas prices for public supply, with unofficial calculations suggesting that gas prices could increase by 20 to 30% for consumers starting in October 2024. The extent of this price hike may depend on potential government measures.

HERA’s decision covers tariff items for public gas supply from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025. The new prices do not include subsidies, leading to a significant rise, partly driven by the increased purchase price of gas, which has gone up by 42.5% from 26.4 euros/MWh to 37.5 euros/MWh.

In addition to the purchase cost, the final gas price includes distribution and supply costs. For example, in Zagreb, Medjimurje Plin will supply gas at 0.0522 euros/kWh, a 26.7% increase compared to the previous subsidized rate. Other regions, such as Rijeka, Osijek, Varazdin, and Cakovec, are also expected to see price increases ranging from 22.2% to nearly 33%.

These price changes apply to typical customers with an annual gas consumption between 5,001 and 25,000 kWh. HERA has not provided further explanations for the increases, only noting that the new tariff items were set without government subsidies.
