Croatian state-owned power utility HEP announced the new prices of electricity for residential consumers, which will come into effect after 1 April. It is evident that the price increase will be higher than initially announced by Prime Minister Plenkovic in mid-February.
The price increase will affect most of 1.43 million TS residential electricity consumers in Croatia, since HEP holds about 90 % of the supply market.
In mid-February, the Government adopted a set of measures to mitigate the effect of rising energy prices, including the reduction of VAT on electricity to 13 %. Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said that the price for households should be increased by 9.6 %, adding that the increase would amount to 23 % if the measures weren’t introduced, because the price of electricity on the exchanges quadrupled in the past year.
However, HEP’s price lists show that the increase will be slightly higher than announced, ranging from 8 to 11 %, depending on the tariff.
