Croatia: Electricity trading on CROPEX in March 2025

In March 2025, a total of 1,095,735.5 MWh of electricity was traded on the Croatian energy exchange CROPEX, marking a 7.4% decrease compared to February. Of this, 829,619.8 MWh was traded on the day-ahead market, while 266,115.7 MWh was traded on the intraday market, setting a new monthly volume record for the intraday market. Compared to March 2024, the traded volume in March 2025 was 40% higher.

The average daily base price on the day-ahead market for March was 104.87 euros/MWh, reflecting a 29.6% decrease from the previous month. The average peak price on the day-ahead market was 96.15 euros/MWh, down 39.1% from February. On the intraday market, the average price dropped by 32.3%, reaching 102.84 euros/MWh.

CROPEX had 33 participants on the day-ahead market in March, one more than the previous month, with 31 of them also active on the intraday market. The average daily traded volume on the day-ahead market in March amounted to 26,761.9 MWh.

CROPEX, which was launched on March 11, 2016, in cooperation with Nord Pool, Europe’s leading electricity exchange, is co-owned by the Croatian electricity transmission system operator (HOPS) and the Croatian electricity market operator (HROTE). The intraday market began in April 2017, and on June 19, 2018, the day-ahead market was successfully coupled with the MRC markets through the Croatian-Slovenian border following a joint project by the Croatian and Slovenian transmission system operators and power exchanges.
