Croatia: Electricity production drops 19% in September amid lower hydro output

According to short-term energy statistics published by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, Croatia generated 834 GWh of electricity in September 2025, a decrease of 19.3 percent compared to the same month in 2024, when production reached 1,034 GWh.

Of the total electricity produced in September, hydropower plants accounted for 228 GWh (27.3 percent), thermal power plants generated 279 GWh (33.5 percent), wind farms produced 149 GWh (17.9 percent), and solar power plants delivered 105 GWh (12.6 percent).

Electricity imports amounted to 1,093 GWh, up 3 percent from 1,061 GWh in September 2024. Exports totaled 452 GWh, a decline of 23 percent compared to 587 GWh last year.

In terms of hydrocarbons, Croatia produced 63 million cubic meters of natural gas in September 2025, an 8.7 percent decrease year-on-year. Natural gas imports dropped sharply to 28 million cubic meters, 87.2 percent lower than in September 2024. Crude oil production reached 38,000 tons, down 5 percent compared to last year, while petroleum product output rose slightly to 310,000 tons from 302,000 tons in September 2024.
