Croatia: CROPEX sees rise in electricity trading volume and prices in June 2025

In June 2025, a total of 1,204,390.1 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity was traded on the Croatian energy exchange CROPEX, marking a 1.6 percent increase compared to May. Of this volume, 970,978.1 MWh was traded on the day-ahead market and 233,412 MWh on the intraday market. Compared to June 2024, this represents a 23.9 percent year-on-year increase in traded volume.

The average daily base price on the day-ahead market in June was 86.01 euros per MWh, up by 2.5 percent from the previous month. The average euro-peak price was 57.25 euros per MWh, which is 1 percent lower than in May. On the intraday market, the average price stood at 87.75 euros per MWh, reflecting a slight month-on-month increase of 0.4 percent.

CROPEX’s day-ahead market had 33 participants in June, the same number as in May, while 31 of them were also active in the intraday market. The average daily traded volume on the day-ahead market during the month was 32,365.9 MWh.

CROPEX was launched on March 11, 2016, in cooperation with Nord Pool, Europe’s leading electricity exchange. It is co-owned by the Croatian electricity transmission system operator (HOPS) and the Croatian electricity market operator (HROTE). The intraday market was introduced in April 2017. On June 19, 2018, following a joint initiative by Croatian and Slovenian transmission system operators and energy exchanges, the CROPEX day-ahead market was successfully coupled with the MRC markets via the Croatian-Slovenian border.
