Croatia: CROPEX electricity trading down 8.2% in September, prices rise across all market segments

A total of 1,090,592.7 MWh of electricity was traded on the Croatian energy exchange CROPEX in September 2025, marking an 8.2% decrease compared to August. Of this amount, 844,711.1 MWh were traded on the day-ahead market and 245,881.6 MWh on the intraday market. Compared to the same month last year, the total traded volume was 1.3% lower.

The average daily base price on the day-ahead market in September was 95.7 euros per MWh, an increase of 21.7% compared to the previous month. The average euro-peak price reached 91.5 euros per MWh, which is 63.6% higher than in August. On the intraday market, the average price stood at 98.09 euros per MWh, up by 24.4% from the previous month.

There were 33 participants on the CROPEX day-ahead market in September, the same number as in August, with 31 of them also active on the intraday market. The average daily traded volume on the day-ahead market was 28,157 MWh.

CROPEX was launched on March 11, 2016, in cooperation with Nord Pool, Europe’s leading electricity exchange, and is co-owned by the Croatian electricity transmission system operator (HOPS) and the Croatian electricity market operator (HROTE). The intraday market began operating in April 2017. On June 19, 2018, following a joint project between the Croatian and Slovenian transmission system operators and power exchanges, the CROPEX day-ahead market was successfully coupled with MRC markets through the Croatian-Slovenian border.
