Croatia: Bauwerk Croatia and E.ON collaborate on biomass cogeneration power plant in Djurdjevac

Bauwerk Croatia, a leading producer and supplier of premium parquet and a member of the Bauwerk Group, has partnered with E.ON Energy Infrastructure Solutions, a part of E.ON Croatia specializing in energy infrastructure solutions for business clients, to successfully implement a biomass cogeneration power plant project in Djurdjevac.

This cogeneration plant, which utilizes waste biomass (wood chips), represents the largest investment by the E.ON Group in Croatia to date. The project is secured through a seven-year power purchase agreement (PPA) upon its commissioning.

After more than 18 months of intensive work, the €12 million project has reached its final stages. The plant, built on a turnkey basis, is expected to generate approximately 1.1 MW of electricity and 6 MW of thermal energy. This output is equivalent to the average annual electricity consumption of around 2,300 households. E.ON experts have been involved in the design, construction, and testing phases and are currently in the pre-commissioning stage. The construction was contracted to Amarc DHP.

The plant will use wood chips, a waste product from Bauwerk’s parquet production, as fuel. This not only ensures stability in the face of fluctuating energy market conditions but also eliminates the need for additional energy sources. With E.ON’s collaboration, Bauwerk Croatia will achieve significant savings and ensure its energy stability. Moreover, the project promotes a circular economy by transitioning to renewable energy sources.
